Rules
1 - The object of the Association shall be the encouragement of good ploughing, good husbandry, good fellowship, awareness of current agricultural good practices and such purposes as may be determined by the Committee.

2 - The management of the Ploughing Match and Show is vested in the Committee as elected each year. This Committee has absolute power to amalgamate or delete classes and entries as it sees fit, without stating their reasons

3 - The area of the association comprises all those parishes bounded by Slaugham in the north, Henfield in the West, Plumpton in the East, and in the South by the Coast.

4 - The Judges for all the Competitions are to be appointed by the Committee.

5 - There shall be a general meeting of the Association held annually, when audited accounts shall be presented and officers elected. Fourteen days prior notice shall be given of the AGM.

6 - The Association its officers or servants shall not be responsible to any person whatsoever, while upon the premises being used by the Association, or while entering or leaving the same, for any damage or loss however caused to the property or any such person for any injury, fatal or otherwise, to any such person.

7 - The number of prizes awarded in any one class will be determined by the number of entries in the same.
Viz:  Up to 3 entries                  1st Place only.
        Up to 4 entries                  1st and 2nd.
        Up to 5 and more              1st, 2nd and 3rd.
No Competitor shall be awarded more than one prize in any one class. Prize cards will be awarded

8 - All entries must be notified to the entry steward by the dates stated in the Schedule hereto. Fees shall be paid not later than 12 noon on the day of the show.

9 - All exhibits shall be grown on land in the Competitor's occupation.

10 - Samples of corn etc to be not less than 20kgs. Clearly labelled and presented at the Showground after 3pm on the day previous to the Show or before 10am on the day of the Show.

12 - All protests against awards must be made in writing to the Secretary's office on the Showground before 2pm on the day of the Show and Match, or within 30 minutes of the Judge's decision. The sum of £30.00 must be deposited with each protest, such sum to be forfeited to the funds of the Association, if in the opinion of the Committee, such protest has been made without sufficient grounds. The decision of the Committee in all cases shall be final.



Cups and Trophies

Whilst the Association maintains ownership and insures these at all times, winners respectfully requested, that at all times while in their possession they keep same safely and clean. Any damage or loss to be reported immediately to the cup steward; Pat Beard. Also that within two weeks prior to the next Match and Show they contact Pat Beard to arrange return in good condition for re-presentation and engraving as necessary. Thanking you for your co-operation in this matter.



Ploughing Rules
1 - Ploughmen are advised to check that their Tractors and Equipment comply with the current Health and Safety Legislation. The Association cannot be held responsible for any legal action brought against Competitors whilst taking part in or travelling  to or from the Match.

2 - Competitors must give notice to the Entry Steward, with details as required at least 12 days before the date of the Match. Entry fees shall be paid not later than 12 noon on the day of the Match.

3 - Competitors will be given their plot number on entry to the ground, the plot number having been allocated previously at the time when their entry is received. All tractors to be in the ground by 9.00am and are to proceed immediately to their plot and commence opening out. Opening out is to be completed by 9.30am all ground to be moved.

4 - The Horse ploughing shall not be less than 4" deep, in tractor ploughing the depth shall not be less that 6" to a maximum of 10". Any variations to theses standards are at the discretion of the Host, in conjunction with the Committee.

5 - Any Ploughman will be disqualified if he has not completed his plot, within 3 hours from the judging of the opening in the Class concerned. Stewards will notify all Competitors of their starting times. Any extension of those times will be at the discretion of the Steward.

6 - One plough body may be removed where conditions are such as to warrant removal, subject to the approval of three Stewards. (No plough body may be added or removed during the Competition.) Skimmers must be used.

7 - Any ploughman receiving assistance after the start of the competition will be disqualified. Ploughmen are allowed assistance with the erection of marking out sticks before opening commences. The last furrow must be thrown towards the Competitor's own backing, and there shall be only one wheel-mark in the finish

8 -
A Novice Ploughman is considered to be anyone who has ploughed in less than 5 Competitive Matches.

9 - Class 6 will plough to National Rules and Points, details available from the Entry Steward; Brian Clement.

10 - Vintage Tractors and Ploughs to be as manufactured pre 1960. All plough parts have been in production pre 1960.

11 - Classic Tractors and Ploughs as manufactured between 1.1.1961 and 31.12.1970. No match Ploughs will be eligible for Class 3.

12 - Classes 1, 2, and £ to conform to National Rules regarding the use of Skims and Tailpieces.

13 - A Class of less than three entries will be amalgamated at the discretion of the Committee

14 - On reaching Premier or Intermediate status no Ploughman will be eligible to plough in a lower defined Class.

In the reversible classes, the competitor must make a conventional opening split. The competitor must then stop to allow this to be judged. The competitor then ploughs a minimum of 6 furrows towards the preceding number, and completes his plot. Alternate bodies must be used at all times.

The Match will be held at Hook House Farm in Isaacs Lane, Burgess Hill on 4th Oct 2008

Ploughing commences at 9am

There are lunches, food, licensed bar, trade stands, competitions and much more at the show.

2008: Silage and hayledge results are in. Winners are Dutton Partners, Harold Turner, Steve Franklyn and Andrew Elliott.
